How are good days chosen?
Three systems are laid over one another: the Twelve Officers, the Yellow and Black Road, and the days without the wandering spirit. A day that all three call good rises to the top; a day badly marked by any one of them falls. The weighting shifts with the purpose — a good day to marry is not the same as a good day to open a shop.
What is a day without the wandering spirit (son-eomneun-nal)?
It is a day whose lunar date ends in 9 or 0. The 'son' — a spirit said to roam the directions and interfere — is held to have risen to the sky and left the ground on those days, which is why they are used for moving house and opening a business. They come six times a month, so insisting on them alone narrows the field sharply.
What changes if I add my own chart?
The day's branch is then also weighed against your own day branch for clash or harmony. A day the calendar calls good drops if it clashes with your chart, and an ordinary day rises if it harmonises with your day branch. This is exactly where a day that is good for other people parts from a day that is good for you.
