How is the Tojeong Secret read?
Your birth date yields three numbers — upper, middle, and lower — which set a hexagram, and that hexagram carries a reading for the year plus one for each of the twelve months. The birth hour is not used, so you can read it without knowing your time. The method comes from Tojeong Yi Ji-ham of the mid-Joseon period.
How does the Tojeong Secret differ from a BaZi reading?
A BaZi reading draws a map of a whole life from the eight characters you were born with. The Tojeong Secret draws a fresh hexagram each year and reads only that year's flow. BaZi speaks about the person; Tojeong speaks about the season. That is why a chart is read once and Tojeong is read again every year.
When does the Tojeong year actually begin?
Traditionally the year runs from one Start of Spring (立春) to the next. The boundary falls around February 4th, not January 1st, so someone born in January may use the previous year's hexagram. This screen divides the years at Start of Spring.
