Hexagram of the Day

Hexagram of the Day

The moment you ask sets the hexagram — the 64 of the I Ching

About this reading

How is an I Ching hexagram drawn?

Traditionally by dividing fifty yarrow stalks, or by throwing three coins six times. Either way the point is to take the chance of the asking moment exactly as it falls. This screen converts the stems and branches of the moment you ask into numbers and sets one of the sixty-four hexagrams from them.

What do I do if a bad hexagram comes up?

The I Ching does not fix good and ill. It says whether this is a moment to advance or to withdraw, so a so-called inauspicious hexagram usually means 'not now'. The same hexagram is read in a different direction depending on what you asked.

Does the hexagram change every day?

Yes. The stems and branches of the day turn over, so a new hexagram is set. Within a single day the hexagram holds, so one drawn in the morning can be checked again that evening.
